Rachel Ivie

Rachel Ivie recently joined the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) as Director of Higher Education Programs and Grants. Previously, Dr. Ivie worked at the American Institute of Physics, where she served as Director of the Statistical Research Center, then Senior Director of Education and Research, and recently as Senior Research Fellow and Interim Director of the Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma. In 2021, Dr. Ivie was recognized by the American Astronomical Society as a Fellow “For a groundbreaking career of statistical studies tracking important diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in the astronomical sciences.” Dr. Ivie, who has a PhD in sociology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, has a strong connection with the physics and astronomy community, deep knowledge of physics and astronomy in higher education, experience measuring inequity in physics and astronomy, grant writing and administration experience, teaching experience, and has collaborated on several projects in Physics Education Research.
