Eric Burkholder

Eric Burkholder is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Auburn University. He has the first Physics Education Research program at Auburn with a focus on scientific problem-solving and issues of equity across the physics curriculum, with an increasing focus on graduate education. Dr. Burkholder received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, with a focus on the physics of nonequilibrium soft matter systems, before transitioning into Physics Education Research during a postdoctoral appointment at Stanford University with Carl Wieman.

Dr. Burkholder is the PI on an Innovations in Graduate Education grant to Auburn University focused on integrating scientific problem-solving into coursework and early formative assessment milestones. He is also the team lead for Auburn University's participation in the Inclusive Graduate Programs project, led by Northwestern University. Dr. Burkholder has conducted faculty development workshops across the globe, and has consulted with universities, companies, and governmental organizations worldwide on issues of assessment, effective teaching practices, and program design.
